I haven’t posted an interview in a while because I didn’t want to give you Camille fatigue.  I certainly don’t want this blog to be a forum for me to congratulate myself all of the time…  But, this is a pretty cool interview, which just happens to be for Sex.com.  That’s a pretty big deal and it’s so cool that they’re so nuanced in what they asked me.  It’s not your average interview, to be sure.

I thought I’d share a few of my favourite questions, all of which actually made me think:

What’s your opinion on this new(ish) genre, “couples porn”? Do you and Mike take credit for the style? (Because it does seem like “couples porn” is biting your style.)

I feel like “couples porn” is more about making porn for couples and less about being real couples making porn. What we make is definitely appropriate for couples, but also for single people… We have a really diverse audience and we don’t want to limit or target them specifically. We’re just doing what we love and we’re lucky that a lot of people really like it!

Though it’s time consuming, would you still want to run your websites and perform in scenes if it wasn’t such an independent operation?

Probably not. The reason we love what we do is that we have control over it. I don’t want to feel pressured to be aroused on command so I can shoot when I’m not in the mood. I don’t want to be coerced into showing more than I want to show or doing things that I don’t to do just because of what they think sells.

I’m so much happier shooting at home with my boyfriend and then going out for lunch after. It’s a relaxed approach that makes the results much more erotic.

How much input do you have in the editing/filming of the scenes? Is it mostly Mike Flirt or is it a collaborative effort between the two of you? (FYI, Mike Flirt is Camille’s partner.)

We’re always quite collaborative. I tend to edit the photos while he edits the videos, but we certainly talk through things and bounce ideas off each other. We like to do things together.

I hope you liked the questions. Sex.com is fairly new with the blog (only since mid-2012) but I think it’s coming along nicely, and I’m very honoured to be their second ever interview!

I wanted to share a few features I’ve been lucky enough to be a part of recently, starting with two great pieces that xoxoAmore did about me/my sites/my DVD lately.  I’m lucky that I’ve been writing pieces there (with help from other lovely ladies) about the beauty in porn, so it was really sweet of them to include me in other ways too.  To have a Canadian blog that is really excited about all the potential that porn has…  Well, that’s a wonderful thing to add to our culture!

The review was initially about The Art of Blowjob on DVD, but ended up becoming more about the site as well after they got a membership.  It’s always so wonderful to get positive feedback about doing something new and different, so I really appreciated it.  Then, they followed it up with a great interview, asking me a lot of the standard questions, but in a much more familiar and friendly way, which I love!  It feels nice to feel warmth coming from the questions.

Then, Get Lusty posted a great interview with me today, which I also had a wonderful time doing.  They asked a few really great questions that got out of the standard norms and got me thinking about how to get people even more excited about giving blowjobs, not just receiving them.

It’s always great to find more and more people who are excited about what I do…  It’s not about ego, it’s just about constantly sharing the message that porn can be beautiful in lots of different ways.  I hope it’s always perceived that way.  :)

Making beautiful porn means that I get to spread my message a lot, which is something that makes me feel very in charge of what I do.  There’s nothing better than having the way I view sexuality so constantly validated, and that includes a lot of interviews…  Touch Me Magazine decided to do a great interview with me, so I wanted to share it and hopefully you’ll get that same exciting warm feeling when you read their little introduction:

Camille Crimson focuses on sensual blowjob porn shot in a really artistic way and she shoots exclusively with her long-term partner, so she has a very different perspective on the way porn is made.  The end result is really really sexy and pretty revolutionary for the adult industry…

Touch Me Magazine: Nowadays deep throating is very popular… What are your thoughts on it?

Camille Crimson: Deep throating is a great skill to have and a lot of guys definitely like it, but it’s not the only important factor of a blowjob.  You can train your gag reflex over time, but it’s most important to explore different ways of creating sensations and to see what works best for your partner.

Touch Me Magazine: You have your own blowjob websites as well as a blog. How does it feel to be connected with your fans?

Camille Crimson: There’s something so wonderful about connecting with people who really appreciate the fact that porn can be beautiful.  It’s amazing to know that so many people see value in this respectful, loving and beautiful way of sharing sexuality.  When I hear stories of how people have changed their views on porn or have been able to connect with themselves or in their relationship through our sites, it’s really incredible.

 

I love being interviewed and I’m always happy to answer questions for a new audience.  Once such audience is the lovely readership over at Orgasm.com, which has set up a great news area to show pornstars in a respectful way on their own terms.  On top of the usual sexy questions and general background information that you need to get out there, they also asked some interesting and thoughtful questions which showed off more about who I am and what I believe, which is always nice:

Orgasm News:What are you thoughts on the Internet? Do you think it’s helping or destroying the porn industry?

Camille: I think it’s making porn a lot more accessible, which is good, and it’s making a lot of people realize that it’s not such a big deal to enjoy porn or even participate in making porn.  That said, people need to remember that getting everything for free means that smaller companies (and even big ones) can’t support themselves nearly as well.  If you find something you really like, pay for it to make sure that there’s more like it!

Orgasm News:Can you describe what a perfect date for you would be like?

Camille: I love days where I can get out and explore on my motorcycle with my boyfriend, get cleaned up and go out for a sumptuous dinner with a fine red wine and then back home (or to a nice hotel or chalet, if we’ve traveled far) for an evening of really beautiful, sensual sex.

I love interviews!  I say that a lot, whenever I do another interview, but it’s never any less true.  I’ve been lucky to do a lot of interviews with different adult and mainstream sites and publications alike, but this was one of my first forays into the industry side for an interview.  Sophie hooked up with Payout Magazine to create an interview to bring the concept of beautiful porn to everyone who is interested in the business side of porn.  It’s the best way to spread the message, after all.

Even though I’ve made the rounds quite considerably in the industry, a lot of webmasters haven’t ventured out to find our type of porn.  We’re not amateur, but we’re also not a huge multi-girl site and sometimes people just don’t quite know what to think of anything outside of their norms.  By getting to explain the unique vision of our sites, we’ll hopefully be able to tap into new segments of the market and reach out to people who might otherwise have never found what we do.

There’s an online version of the magazine, which hopefully you’ll check out.  My interview appears on page 14/15, and goes into some industry nitty gritty about niches, blogging and social media as well.  It might be a neat little insight into the behind the scenes business ventures of porn.  What do you think?  How do you feel about me reaching out to this segment of the adult industry?  Can you see potential benefits?

I love it when nice interviews come to fruition, and that’s certainly the case with the one for local Montreal blog Forget the Box, which encourages us not only to think outside the box, but to forget it entirely…  Which is certainly my approach to porn.  This one has been a while in the works, but I really love the end result.  I was interviewed by a fellow Montreal redhead who loves blowjobs…  How could it start off better?

My favourite question she asked me was probably one that I had never been asked before in those exact words:

On your website, I read that one of your goals it to “change the face of porn”. How do you go about doing that?

We just try to make something visually beautiful that is rooted in being ourselves.  It’s not really performance, which is what most people consider porn.  It’s two people who really care about each other finding ways to share sensual experiences.  It’s just not much like mainstream porn.  It’s much more accessible to a wider variety of people, and by getting more people interested in sexuality, porn changes and grows.

For a while, I’ve had my sights set on talking to the people behind X-Art, which many of you know as a pioneering porn site focusing on beautiful people having sex in lovely locations.  I was able to get some questions out to Colette, half of the couple behind the successful site, to find out what makes them different.  Here is what she had to say:

How did you get started working in the adult industry?

Originally Brigham (her husband) had a website which showcased his gorgeous fashion-nude style photos. We really wanted to work together so we came up with the idea to make a new website that showed sex in the same style as his nudes ~ beautiful, erotic and artistic.

What was your biggest influence when you started?

We looked to mainstream fashion photography for guidance on lighting and quality of models.

Your fanbase has expanded significantly. How many members do you have today?

I could tell you but then I’d have to kill you (LOL). We have a lot of members  

Do you consider your work porn?  How do you engage with that word?

Pornography or porn is the explicit portrayal of sexual subject matter, so technically you could say so. But I believe we are actually offering Erotica… Here’s the definition of Erotica from Wikipedia: Erotica (from the Greek ἔρως, eros “desire”) are works of art, including literature, photography, film, sculpture and painting, that deal substantively with erotically stimulating or sexually arousing descriptions. The term is a modern word that describes the portrayal of the human anatomy and sexuality with high-art aspirations, differentiating such work from commercial pornography.

What types of people make up your audience? Do you skew towards women and couples?

Our audience is still mostly men, but the number of woman and couples joining X-Art increases every day. I know many women and couples who appreciate the site and that makes me REALLY happy! 

What is the most poignant feedback you’ve received about X-Art from a fan?

Wow, that is impossible to   narrow down. You will have to join the site and read the comments, we have so many!

What types of models do you work with?

Beautiful, nice, smart and sexually adventurous women and men. Also our models have a very clean and natural look, a fashion-style girl is perfect for us.

How many shoots a year do you do in your stunning locations?

We are shooting constantly.

How do you select the locations for your shoots?

We choose the most beautiful places we can find. We look for great architecture, views and light.

You often have an element of fantasy in the writing of your site…  Are the romantic/couple-based contexts ever reality, or are your performers strictly performing.

A lot of the context is based on reality, especially when the models are a real couple. 

12. What is your thought on the concept of free porn, specifically tube sites, and how has that effected X-Art?

Tube sites have brought us some traffic and I am ok with them as long as they remove our videos when we ask (which most of them usually do). I believe people who want real quality will still pay for it, regardless of the tube sites.

Almost all of your models are tattoo-free. Is that an aesthetic or business choice?

It’s a business choice, most of our members do not like tattoos. I personally think the right tattoos can look very hot on a man or a woman, but aesthetically I believe our site looks better with as few tattoos as possible.

Most of your shoots feature a lot of white. Is that related to symbolic purity?

Not at all.

What influence do you think X-Art has had on the industry?

I think X-Art has changed the way that people feel about watching erotica online. I think that we have made it ok for women, men and couples to enjoy beautiful sex scenes, get turned on, get off and have that be OK – I mean it is becoming acceptable in our society. We still have a long way to go, but I like to believe that we are saving marriages and making people happy.  I think ‘the industry’ sees any ‘niche’ that is doing well and will just try to copy that.

What is next for X-Art?

We have so much cool stuff planned, but you’ll just have to wait and see! 

I’m so glad I got to get a little glimpse into what they do and how they do it.  Obviously, there are many differences in the way we present our sites, but the undercurrent of wanting to make something beautiful and new that everyone can enjoy.  If we can reduce the stigma around porn, we can open up a lot of people to pleasure.  So, thank you to Colette from X-Art for sharing this wonderful insight with us.

Recently, our very own Sophie Delancey went and had a nice talk with Cooper, Dylan, Ginger and Shira of Life on the Swingset.  She takes care of the chattiness, since I’m not a big fan of public speaking, and she did a great job sharing our view of beautiful porn with these very versatile and well-versed people in a new podcast.

I always feel flattered when I hear people talking about what we do in such a favourable light, just understanding the value in beauty in porn.  It’s still a pretty radical idea to enjoy porn beyond using it just to come, so it makes me happy to hear people talking about the appreciation of the slow tease.

I am so pleased to announce that I’ve been interviewed for The Smoking Jacket, which is Playboy’s SFW website.  This is a real honour and a dream come true to be associated with such a long-standing adult industry dynasty.  I wanted to share just a little bit with you, so here’s a question and answer to whet your appetite:

TSJ: That’s really nice of you. What brought this on?

CC: A lot of it is a response to what I had seen in porn so far. Taking it slow is a wonderful way to really feel the sensuality and to really accentuate all the little details. There is so much taken for granted in a really great blow job, so getting to explore every sensation and moment is something that feels totally new each time. As for fun, I think there’s a way to make blow jobs (and porn in general) a lot more light and playful. Even in seductive moments, there can be a little smile or tease. It certainly helps that I shoot with my boyfriend. Fun and spontaneous silliness is part of who we are together, and I love when that comes out in our videos. It just shows the real us and you feel the love. It’s hard not to.

Now, don’t you worry.  There will be a blog post all about today’s Slow Motion Blowjob update.  I wouldn’t want to deprive you of that, but I also wanted to share a great little interview that I did, which is in part about Slow Motion Blowjob.  It fits with the theme of the day, you see.  The interview was with a site called Offbeatr, from the makers of Extra Lunch Money.  I had done an interview with them before, but I wanted to expand a bit and specifically share some of my passion about taking it slow as well as talking a bit about the behind the scenes creation and maintenance of a porn site.

So, what’s Offbeatr?  It’s actually pretty interesting.  It’s a crowd funding site (like Kickstarter or Indiegogo) made specifically for adult projects.  This is really important because most traditional investors wouldn’t feel comfortable supporting a sexuality-based project and a lot of other crowd funding sites don’t allow porn, so this creates a great self-selecting space where people who like adult content can find initiatives to support.  Yay!

I really loved doing this interview, and I wanted to share just a couple of questions:

Tell us more about Slow Motion Blowjob. What is the site about and where’d you get the inspiration for it?

The site is, as the name suggests, about slow motion blowjobs.  We shoot the blowjobs on a specific slow motion setting, placing shots that really emphasize the detail of oral sex.  The result is very sumptuous and sensual blowjob videos that you can practically feel.  It’s a hypnotic kind of eroticism.  The videos are much longer than the typical video we have on The Art of Blowjob, but they’re set to a similar kind of trance background music.  It’s really an entirely different sensory experience…  It’s really, really beautiful.

How do you keep the content fresh and interesting when each clip is a blowjob?

The main thing that keeps it fresh is just the attitude with which we approach every video.  It’s real, so you get the giggles, the anticipation, the connection…  We change locations, themes, outfits, focuses, other sex acts, but all of that comes second to the natural evolution of our relationship.

What tips or strategies do you use to build a following? A lot of people want to have an audience, but when you start it’s difficult since no one knows you. What has worked for you?

Making great work and getting people to notice you is the best way.  Sharing on blogs or tubes or sites with great social media presence means that they will likely share your content with their followers, including a link to your social media.  Then, once you have some followers, be interesting and they’ll be likely to share you with more people, who will in turn follow you…  It’s all pretty obvious, but being interesting is harder than it sounds.  I’m always tweaking the way I share things to make people happy while still being honest with myself.
