Whack Magazine Interviews Me About Porn in Montreal

22 Mar

I’m a proud Montrealler!  I talk about my beautiful city regularly and I think it informs a tremendous amount of what I do.  Over the past few years, the Montreal porn scene has really exploded, but it was always a fairly big part of our city.  My dear friend Chris Madsen contacted me to take part in a piece he was doing for Whack Magazine about Montreal’s increasing importance in the porn world, so I obliged of course.  I’m going to share a couple of the questions he asked me, since they were very insightful and well posed:

WHACK! Magazine Why are we seeing many adult companies set up shop in MTL?
CAMILLE CRIMSON Its a very sexual city in a lot of ways, from the way we approach sex
commercially to the way we approach sex emotionally. Were just a lot more liberal about the body and desire.

WHACK! Magazine Is Montreal leading in a new form of porn, with sites like Art of Blowjob and Pornographic Love?
CAMILLE CRIMSON In a sense yes, but I think that what we do is rare in porn period. It just happens that were from here.

WHACK! Magazine Why are we seeing Montreal becoming a player in the adult industry, an industry thats been dominated by California up to now?
CAMILLE CRIMSON There has been a lot of business innovation happening here, so people have taken note. There have also been a lot of big industry mergers with businesses in Montreal, so other companies have had to move here!

He also interviewed our own Sophie Delancey and Phil from Porn.com, so there is a lot more where that came from.  Go find out all about why Montreal is the new porn capitol of the world by reading the rest of Chris’ amazing article.  Thanks for representing our fine city!

Feminist Porn Awards and Fleshbot Guest Editor Spot

16 Mar

Wow!  Today has been an amazing day so far and I just wanted to share two awesome pieces of news with you!

First, I woke up to an e-mail that both The Art of Blowjob and Pornographic Love were nominated for Best Website for the 2012 Feminist Porn Awards.  This is a huge deal for both of our sites because we respect the Feminist Porn Awards so much.  We were so excited to be honoured as a recipient of an award for Best Website for The Art of Blowjob last year.  The fact that Pornographic Love got nominated on their first year is even more incredible!

Then, I got a wonderful e-mail from Lux Alptraum of Fleshbot asking if I wanted to be a guest editor for a week!  That would mean I’d get to pick content for the site, write articles, feature interesting people in porn…  I have so many plans already and I think it’s going to be wonderful.  It’s going to be around the week of May 21st, so I have a while to plan.  This is such an incredible opportunity and I feel so lucky.

Today really feels like a dream come true…  If someone had told me just a few years ago that I’d be getting to be a part of such amazing things now, I wouldn’t have believed him.  All I can say is…  Wow!  I’m a very lucky lady.

Violet and Rye Take on the Good Porn Problem

5 Mar

Violet+Rye brought to you by PornHub

You all know that I love Violet and Rye of Uncommon Appetites.  I always #FF them on Twitter, I refer to them frequently here and we’re just generally very chummy.  That is because we have something in common.  Actually, we have many things in common, but one thing in particular…  We wish there was more good porn.  Don’t we all?

What does that mean?  Well, it’s not something that is represented very well in mainstream porn and, though amateur porn sometimes has the right spirit, it isn’t executed in the right way to really achieve the end result.  Violet and Rye managed to capture the essence of what makes “good porn” quite succinctly:

-We want people to tease us.
-To show us some of what we want.
-To show us something we didn’t KNOW we wanted.
-To hold back other bits.
-To enjoy the sex they’re having, genuinely.
-To not be too stagey, but put a little thought into it.
-To be brief, but not too brief.

Not to turn this into a humble brag, but that’s what we’re trying to do with The Art of Blowjob and Pornographic Love and, as evidenced from the video I included at the beginning of this post, it’s what they’re trying to do too.  As they validly point out, it takes money.  Not any more money than mainstream porn, in fact much less, but more than nothing.  We need more people to come out and be willing to share their skills, sexuality and understanding of the nuances of making something that’s genuinely erotic, then I think that good porn (or beautiful porn!) will find its footing in the industry and become profitable enough for it to be a large segment of adult entertainment.

You can read the rest of their (very intelligent) thoughts on the issue here, and I’d love to know what you think…  How do we make the dream of a porn industry populated with a more diverse array of beautiful porn?

On Sex Positive Porn

22 Feb

This video is amazing, so thanks to Megan Andelloux, Sarah Champagne, and Alicia Gauvin from the Center for Sexual Pleasure and Health!  First, let me say that this video is full of a sexy retro feminist look, which I love.  I should be cuddled up on the couch with them, wearing my red bandana à la Rosie the Riveter and drinking tea.  They look like they’re having so much fun talking about porn.  We should be best friends!

What they start talking about is really interesting.  Do you feel like the porn you enjoy mirrors who you are?  Would you shelf (or folder) of porn be shocking, or do you think it’s representative of you?  Would you feel weird if non-judgmental people knew what kind of stuff you enjoy?

The idea of  people who are “actually allowed to come the way the want with whom they want” is bang on.  Whether it’s queer, or straight like what we do, that is the magic ingredient.  We do need to share these “delicious moments” of sex positivity.  In fact, I need to edit my tour to emphasize our sex positivity!  Thanks, Youtube video!

Also, what they say about paying for porn is very very valid!  Whether it’s porn that pays out their performers or helping small companies pay the bills, it is a great way to encourage sex positive porn and increase the propensity of awesome porn.  Then they talk about great companies (sadly they don’t mention me, but next time?) and they talk about how these companies make you feel that it’s great to watch porn because the people in the videos are genuinely enjoying it!  They even address the fact that sex positive porn shows a wide array of sexuality, so you’re less likely to feel weird if you don’t jive to one kind of sex or sensation.  Yay!

Smart people talking about porn?  I love it.  Did this video make you happy?

Photo Section on Pornographic Love

16 Feb

You all know that I think that Lilyanne is absolutely gorgeous, right?  She’s pretty dreamy, very charming and smart and she oozes (gross word, but applicable) sexuality and sensuality.  You can see why we decided to help make a website with them, right?  ;)

Pornographic Love started out with just a basic updates section with videos, and the emphasis wasn’t as much on photography.  But quietly, they were stocking up on photos until they were ready to burst forth with a new photo section, filled with gorgeous shots…  And here they are!  Aren’t they stunning?

There’s something about her look that really drives me wild.  I’ve always been a fan of brunettes, and seeing her very tanned, very slim and athletic body with that perfect amount of artsy Montreal “woman about town” tattoos…  I need to compose myself.  Speaking of composition, though, I think Max is an amazing photographer with a great eye.  It’s so clear that these two love each other intimately with a real connection, because that always comes through in the way they can capture one another on film…  That sounds kind of weird, but it’s true.  It just shows that they really know each other.

I’d love to know what you think!  Words of encouragement for this brave couple making beautiful porn would be very much appreciated!

Happy Valentine’s Day

14 Feb

It’s Valentine’s Day, and we all know what that means…  Love!  What kind of love?  All kinds.  For my day, I will be having a nice evening with Mike, making a delicious dinner and having some beautiful red wine, then getting giggly and moving into the bedroom for the evening.  Maybe we’ll even make our second video of the day.  ;)

For this blog post, it means expressing my love to each and every one of you.  You are all so sweet to me, so kind and supportive whenever I need it.  I feel like I can take on the world because of the care I get from my wonderful friends through the site.  So, I hope you all know that you’re all my Valentines!

Mike and I didn’t make a specific Valentine’s Day update this year, although we did shoot a cute portrait series in pink lingerie, as pictured above.  But I have something just as special and awesome to share here!  As a little Valentine’s Day treat, Fleshbot posted Lilyanne and Max’s latest video from Pornographic Love.  It’s shot in this really great cheesy motel with a heart theme, and they have very hot sex in a heart-shaped bath.  You have to see it!
