Steve Jobs
25 Aug
I got the news last night:
To the Apple Board of Directors and the Apple Community:
I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.
I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.
As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.
I believe Apple’s brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.
I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you.
Steve
I know it might seem kind of silly for me to be sad about this, especially since he’s still staying on as the Chairman of the Board, but it feels like the end of an era in a lot of ways, and unfortunately it doesn’t signal great things about his health.
Tim Cook seems like a great guy, and I’m sure he will continue to do wonderful things for the company, but Steve Jobs is an extraordinary person. He changed the world, not just with computers… He’s just inspirational to me as a human being. He has inspired me a tremendous amount to have a vision, to be clear, precise and beautiful in everything I do.
So, thank you, Steve. Thank you for your wonderful work with such an amazing company, bringing it to unbelievable heights and for doing so much to inspire so many along the way.
