I really wanted to share this interesting article about the value of paying for porn. Of course, I have a vested interest in this because I make porn and I enjoy being able to continue to do what I love, but I think the fact that other people outside the adult industry are picking up on the discrepancies associate with paying for porn means that there’s something more to it than the opinions of those of us actually making the porn.
The first point feels pretty manipulative. I wouldn’t ever say that people should pay for something because they’re afraid of the legal ramifications. That’s really not what it’s about. It’s not about punishment of the consumer, it’s about encouragement of the creator. That’s an important thing that people should be considering just for life in general!
It is true that there’s a lot of free porn out there. Between tubes and free samples and trailers and photos on blogs and social media, there’s a lot to enjoy… My theory is, if you want more, that’s when you should consider supporting the company/performer/director you love so much! :) And it is certainly true that porn is, relatively speaking, pretty cheap. It’s nice to offer something that is ultimately not to much money for a whole lot of fun.
More than anything, the last two points are key. Support what you love! Vote with your dollar. ;) This certainly isn’t the first time I’ve said this, but the best thing you can do is just show in some way, whether financially or with words, that you want this kind of porn! I am glad that this message is hitting the mainstream, because it’s the truth. Every bit of encouragement I get… It really makes me want to keep going, knowing that there’ll be an audience for what we love to share.
