Diablo III: A Magnificently Fun Game

Camille Crimson Plays Diablo III

I just finished Diablo III in normal mode yesterday. Although it was relatively easy, I did enjoy every moment of the gameplay when servers were up.  As you probably know, Diablo III can only be played online.  I got disconnected a few times and felt helpless that Blizzard was controlling when I could play the game.  I understand why and the reasons for multiplayer characters to play online are valid, but I feel like my liberty as a single player wanting to play offline wasn’t taken into consideration.

Diablo III Wizard Drawing

What I always loved about Diablo is that it’s so easy a 4 year old can play it (Though that would be bad parenting to let a 4 year old play Diablo!) and it’s no different for Diablo III.  It’s repetitive in a way, but there’s always the excitement of finding a rare item, trying your new skills when you level up or facing a new kind of evil.  Oh, and I love to play over and over again, taking my time to listen to every single character, even those insignificant peasants, to pick-up every single item and piece of gold and try each character, because the first round is always to find out about the story as fast as possible.

Camille's Diablo III Wizard

As a Wizard lady, I was more comfortable using area-effect spells to freeze and shatter mobs in the beginning of the game.  As my character got better and stronger, I was able to focus on protection skills: diamond skin is a must for beating bosses.  Reactive ice-armour also became pretty handy to freeze those sneaky, evil bastards.  And it felt absolutely Goddess-like to become pure energy with the Archon ability.  I can’t wait to play in nightmare mode and see what the runs will do to my Archon ability.

Diablo III Archon Skill

Like all Blizzard stories, Diablo III was entertaining and had a few surprises.  Although there were many similarities with Diablo II different Acts, I found some originality in the presentation of each one. I mean, the drawings were really great and I always enjoy the cinematics. We’re far from the first CGI cinematic; the graphic’s gameplay looks better than my favourite cinematic from StarCraft!

It’s such a spectacularly fun and good game that anyone can play and enjoy immediately, alone or with friends. Best sixty-something dollars I’ve spent on a game this year!  And what can be more satisfying then to beat Evil in its prime?

So?  Did you play Diablo III?  Alone or with friends/strangers from Battle.net?  Who were you?  What’s your favourite skill?  Did you enjoy the twist in the story or did you foresee the future?  Love it or hate it or meh! it?  And will you play over and over again and forever like I will?

I do enjoy the game although right now Diablo is playing havoc with my wizard. I have been playing solo, but did get to play with a friend once which was cool.

I played the Beta, and was pretty disappointed. I’m a huge Diablo fan and played D2 for years, obsessively. I feel like this one was over-hyped; I was so disappointed. Yes it’s simple and repetitive, which is nice, but I couldn’t overcome my Beta disappointment.

Very cool to see you’re a gamer. As a gamer/geek chick myself, I love to see other beautiful, intelligent women doing the same!

I tried to embrace it for what it is, and that made me really enjoy it, but I know that it’s hard to get over disappointment if your hopes are up really high!

I love playing my Witch Doctor. I just finished Act 1 in Hell difficulty.

It offers a bit of stress relief. There’s just something about killing hordes of enemies, an seeing them blown into the sky. :)

Really enjoyed my wizard till the act I of hell. At that point i felt some skills were mandatory to survive. It was still fun but not nearly as much face melting fun i had on normal and inferno.

Rolled a demon hunter. She just has now arrived at act I in Hell. So far i like my dh better. Tumbling around while plonking at a bow is pretty good fun. And she looks unreal =)

As for playing friends and or strangers. Mostly play on my own. Playing with strangers is often really not fun at all. Back in the day (almost 40 year old gamer speaking here), people would be amazed that multiplayer over the internet could be possible. So a friendly chat, killing some monsters. All was well. Now #random1997 doesn’t speak. Or when it does, it’s to telll you U sUck.

Friends then i hear you ask. You must have some friends at least… I do, loads! But a lot of them haven’t been able to keep their lives relatively simple like i did. So they are often playing a game only for short periods of time due to rl constraints.

And the kicker. One of my best friends, a true pc-gamer, is a clicker. The keyboard is complete alien to him. So he runs, stands still, some spell goes off. He moves again. It’s hilarious too watch for like 10mins. After that you’d wish you where playing on your own.

So i mostly play alone =)

Anyway. Time to go home and hit the town with my gf. God, i could use some solid Diablo time and a blowjob right now. Thank you for ruining my evening ;)

Thanks for the Reddit love! I was a bit nervous, but I think it turned out well, and truly, thank you for the support!

I’m glad to meet a fellow lonewolf. Playing with others can definitely be fun, but I really like the thrill of going it alone. I hope you have tons of fun with your girlfriend! ;)

Two questions about your enthusiasm for Diablo III.

    1. Is Mike suffering from Diablo envy?

Mike: “Are you coming to bed?”

    Camille: “Just one more level…”

Mike: “Sigh…that’s what you said an hour ago.” ;)

    2. How the heck are you getting any work done? I hope your not slaying mobs into the wee hours.

My god, even you have beaten Diablo III before me. I am still only in the middle of Act III. I am thinking at this rate I will be finishing up normal mode just in time for The Amazing Spider-Man game coming out later this month… which is kind of deliberate I have to admit. I have friends that are already playing Inferno mode.. that to me is unreal. I absorb every bit of detail I can get out of a game, especially if I pay $60.

Yeah I have a dropped many hours into the Diablo world, I Enjoy the fact that as allways with Blizard. Its the blend of the new features, and the ones you have seen before. That makes it a great way to pass any time you may (or may not) have free. Not to impressed with the need to be online to play single player, but thats more a IP issue of mine. My witch-doctor “Mr Bojangels” is still eager to see more shiny loot, I wont deny him.
