You wouldn't believe the lack of interest in this stuff at the giant telecommunications firm for which I work...their attitude these days is that they're uninterested in any technology that won't show a profit in more than two years.

...which isn't to say that some groups show some interest, anyway, but progress is largely made despite management, rather than because of it.

My favourite eventually-ubiquitous-but-now-flaky-sounding thing: spex (video glasses)...handles 3D without holography, allows for gigantic virtual screens...add body (especially finger) -tracking, and the keyboard can be anywhere.

You can buy some now, but they're not cheap...although most of them seem to be for iP[ad|hone] users.

Private preference: I actually prefer pr0n that's far below life-sized.

Another interesting area to look at is not just the single device, but ubiquitous computing. Regardless of where the computing power is, being able to share information across various devices or surfaces would be very neat.

Imagine browsing through a catalogue of videos on your smartphone, then throwing one to the wall for the rest of the room to enjoy, with the home theatre picking up the audio duties. People with augmented reality overlay hardware might be able have that content in 3D in the space.

Here's a good example of sharing media between devices:
