Writer David Foster Wallace wrote an article included in his collection of essays "Consider the Lobster" (which covers all kinds of topics) where he attends an AVN Awards ceremony. The article, entitled "Big Red Son" offers a pretty humorous examination of the relationship between performers in the porn industry and its audience (and their misconceptions). If you haven't already read it, it could be a good quickie (it is a short read, and yes.. I threw in a euphemism! I couldn't resist-sorry).

Facebook doesn't operate that way, however. You can't spam like you can on Myspace. People need to be your friend in order to post on your wall and a fan page will only send you information if you allow it to. There are a lot of privacy controls that would not allow your grandmother to see certain pages you have liked, for example.

p.s.- I still haven't gotten over the bad taste in my mouth that I got from Myspace porn spammers. The wisest thing Zuckerb' has done with Facebook is 'not' sell out with his product (FB could be making billions more if it were allowed). Otherwise the market will push porn onto people's FB pages. How is a person supposed to be FB friends with people like their grandmother, and also have your favorite pornstar sending you pics?

Yes Myspace allowed to many personalizations, but the reason I personally became disinterested in it 'was' because of the ridiculous amounts of fake friend requests from spammers / wanna be porn stars. It got to the point that I was getting 10+ requests a day from spammers with fake accounts. Just like every man in the world, I appreciate my porn, I just don't need my social media friends knowing how much.

Well, I use Facebook occasionally, but, I have to say, I've never encountered problems with spam, even if I make connections to adult materials. Well, no more than anything else I connect to. But nothing completely unrelated jumps out at me. Honestly, the most obnoxious thing I have to deal with is friends inviting me to play silly facebook games with them. I get worse stuff on Yahoo.

Sadly, yes, people like to use generalizations. It's easier and lets them judge and feel knowledgeable without actually thinking or researching the topic. Unfortunately, people also like to be right, and when generalizations often prove to be wrong, they insulate themselves and cry even louder about how they - as opposed to the shadowy "them" - know the truth and are right. I think it makes people feel smart and special to be part of the "good people". The enlightened few. But almost every "enlightened" group is ignorant in the eyes of some other group that knows the "truth".
