Sadly, yes, people like to use generalizations. It’s easier and lets them judge and feel knowledgeable without actually thinking or researching the topic. Unfortunately, people also like to be right, and when generalizations often prove to be wrong, they insulate themselves and cry even louder about how they – as opposed to the shadowy “them” – know the truth and are right. I think it makes people feel smart and special to be part of the “good people”. The enlightened few. But almost every “enlightened” group is ignorant in the eyes of some other group that knows the “truth”.
