Some of you might have already seen this, but I wanted to share it with you anyways. I made another movie! This time it has nothing to do with the kitchen… It’s about Montreal’s first real snowfall. There were some slushy flakes on Halloween weekend and there were a few intermittent flakes here and there throughout November, but this past weekend, it snowed and it stuck.
So here I am in my neighbourhood, looking out on the city and enjoying the beautiful way snow coats the world. Snow feels so distinctively Canadian to me and it’s such an intrinsic part of Montreal life. Of course, I’m sure I’ll be singing a different tune in February when I’m still dragging through slush, slipping on ice and freezing every time I leave the house, but for now, the snow is really beautiful. And besides, you can make snowballs! (Which I did with my bare hand… Maybe not the best idea I’ve ever had.)
Do you guys live in areas where you get to see a lot of snow? If you do, do you enjoy it? If you don’t, do you wish you had a little snow? It certainly makes winter feel very real for me.
We can go to the snow in a 2-3 hour drive. Having cold (for us) weather helps with the holiday spirit. In years past when are temps are in the mid 70′s its hard to think North Pole, Santa, sugar plums!
Nothing more peaceful looking than an open field with a few trees around with a fresh coating of snow.
That sounds so beautiful, Pete. I’m glad you’re able to see snow!
I envy your snow – we’ve had a very very light dusting in London, but it’s still sent the entire UK into a snow panic. We’re just not used to it!
It’s always funny when snow pops up somewhere unexpected and everyone freaks out, almost wild. I love it!
i live in smethwick – its the most boring hick town 100 miles from london – it snowed toay adn i hate black ice – funnily enough i used to love riding my mototcycle or mountian bhike in the snow – love it steve mcqueen style
That sounds pretty daredevilish, sneaky ess!
This is really nice…and the music is “perfectionner.”
Christmas / summer in Oz is HOT so it sure is a definite contrast. Here in the South-East we get all 4 seasons though which is just as great. Hot summers, cold winters and mild in-between…The change in seasons invigorates the soul
I agree, Michael. The change in seasons is my favourite time of year.
I am stuck living and working in Northern BC. Our snow started in September and will keep on until, likely May. Right now, with the clear skys, Northern Lights and everyone’s Christmas lights twinkling, I am loving the snow. Though I concur, I will have a hard time being so optimistic in the midst of the coming May snow fall.
One of my favorite snow falls was in Montreal. It is a great place to be this time of year! I am very jealous of the Montrealers every December!
It’s beautiful here in December, well, not now since rain and 12 degree days washed the snow away, but it will be! I’m sure BC is very beautiful too, Prowl06.
The first snow fall is always a beautiful site,to see. So clean and refreshing, until the snow plows, ruin it. I spent half my life in michigan, made some visits, to canada, it’s all so beautiful there. Polar bear camping, cross country skiing, all a lot of fun. The wet snow is good for snow balls, and to make a snow man. I still remember how long the winters can last, and how happy i was to see spring. Arizona is my home now. If i want to play in the snow, only 35 miles to a ski resort, works for me. Any video you do is nice to watch, please no more cooking videos, made me very hungry. [ ] Should be a smily face there.
Wow, polar bear camping sounds quite intense, phil! And I can’t promise there won’t be more cooking videos. Just keep a snack handy when you watch them.
Me encanta pasar las vacaciones de invierno en lugares con nieve, por suerte puedo hacerlo cada tanto. No sólo jugar sino tambien esquiar un poco. Es realmente hermoso, es especial. Besos
The miracle of Google translate… You like snow and you get to vacation to ski/play in it! That’s awesome.
We’ve had a very light dusting of snow here in the sunny south of England – exactly what we need to get us into the Christmas spirit. The sun’s just going down into an early pink sunset and the light breeze is going to make the temperature feel 4 or 5 degrees cooler when I leave for home. Getting cold has its own rewards when you are greeted at home by your loved one.

That sounds so charming and picturesque, M!
Picturesque is exactly what it is here this morning. We had four inches (100 mm) of snow overnight and our beautiful village is blissfully quiet and snuggled under it’s pure white blanket. Unfortunately we’ve had to leave the warmth of our blankets to drive to work. But mine was a beautiful drive, the thatched cottages along the way look so lovely.

That honestly sounds like a beautiful paradise! You two are very lucky.
Yes, we do think we’re very lucky. No money but no debts, a small house but big enough for us, village life and no city noise, and most of all, no anger but huge amounts of love. That really is a wonderful paradise. Mind you, I think C would say that Mike’s the one in paradise; and I hope it’s your paradise too.
By the way, C will be back at this (his) desk next week so I’ll miss our day-time blog while I’m out. Perhaps I’ll drag him to the home PC during the evenings

Sounds like the way to be! We’re in paradise too, it’s just different. More city living.
You young things all love that city living. I can remember when we were young…..
Home now, and the snow around our house and garden is just as beautiful as it was this morning.
I’ve fed the birds so now I’m off to feed my man.
M xx
Aw, you feed the birds! That’s adorable!
Well here in the Denmark we’ve been covered in snow for many days now. And it’s super cold but beautiful. I came from a week in Italy where I walked around in light spring clothes, and as I returned the first snow fell in Denmark. People in Denmark tend to worry a lot about the snow. I played a concert and nobody turned up (because of the snow ..) and latest news is that politicians want to make stricter rules about snow balls. Yep, snow balls!
I’m sorry to hear about your concert, Rasmus. And the snowballs! As long as you’re careful they don’t have ice or rocks in them, it should be fair game.
Is that your neighborhood? I like it.
Yes it is! I really love it too.
Beautiful, Camille. Thanks for sharing.
Did you hit any of those cars with your snowballs?
I haven’t seen snow since 2002 (Chicago). Sigh.
I didn’t hit any… But I should have a snowball fight one of these days! And hopefully you’ll get out to see some snow one of these days, Buddha.
Love the short film. Looks like you live in a very nice place. Never been into Canada. Maybe some day.
Country life is the only life for me. Still waiting for snow here in Wisconsin, USA…but it keeps tracking south.
At the first good snow I am out there nordic sking through 100′s of acres of forest being one with nature. A true paradise.
That sounds really lovely, MarkM!
