A lot of people have an opinion on music in porn, especially music on The Art of Blowjob. Some people love it, request songs, give songs to use and ask for how to get more from artists, which is wonderful. We make sure to rotate genres so that even if you don’t like the alt-folk in one video, you might like the trance we use in another. We use creative commons music, so it’s a nice way to give exposure to artists in an unconventional way. Personally, I think the music really suits the videos we make, but sadly not everyone agrees.
Since the site has become more visible and the trailers are more accessible, the comments I’ve been getting regarding the music is a real mixed bag. A lot of people want there to be no music, whether it’s because they hate music in porn or because they want to hear the real sounds. I always try to be very diplomatic about this, but there are limitations to what we can actually do for the time being. The camera isn’t made for catching focused sound. It picks up all the sound in the space, whether it’s trains, the hum of the fridge, rattling in the air vents, neighbours talking loudly… It picks up everything. Also, the wider shots don’t really pick up the blowjob sounds at all.
It would be all well and good if we could just get a boom mic in here with an operator to do the sound, but that’s expensive and really takes away from the intimacy to have a mic hovering above your head while you’re trying to be in the moment and giving a passionate blowjob. Clipping mics would be a problem because they would rustle as we rubbed up against them and often I’m not wearing enough clothing for it to be hidden.
The other thing is that I don’t make that much sound when I give blowjobs and I don’t want it to be too fake. Mike obviously has some reactions and I do moan softly from time to time, but anything more than that would be fairly put on. And I don’t want to do anything inauthentic, because that’s a slippery slope to becoming a bottle blonde and screaming like an orgasmic orangutang each time I’m touched lightly.
So, who knows? Some day we may have the ability to do some great soundless shoots, but for now there isn’t much I can do. Of course, you can always turn off your speakers. ;)
For the most part I think the music selections are wonderful. The only time I recall not liking the music was in one of the duo blowjob viedos because there were lyrics that distracted from what was going on. Even then, I think my favorite background music so far has been ‘Twilight’ by Jeffo’s Dream which incidentally has lyrics.
I do want to say that I really enjoy the brief moments when the music pauses before ejaculation. It really intensifies the moment and I am always impressed by how well it works without becoming repetitive.

Actually, adding the music is one of the things that sets your porn videos apart from the general morass of porn out there, I think it helps to give it a classier feel.
That’s not to say that you should mute all the natural sounds though!

One of the facets of your videos that sets them apart IS the music. Listening to an “orgasmic orangutang” is not my idea of sensual, or erotic. I prefer the sounds of be-bop jazz as a soundtrack to your vids. I also enjoy when you interrupt the music for a bit of the sound in the room, then start again. It’s good editing and a way to add more to a vid that we probably don’t really notice because we are all checking out the fun.
The only sounds I don’t like are those when you speak in French–I always wonder what is being said. Perhaps an alternate audio channel or subtitles?

I have loved nearly every one of your musical selections. Having said that, if you’re looking for a wider selection, for the past 10 years or so my favorite group has been Delerium. I’ve used their music is several of my own porn musical slide shows, for personal use.

My input is not always nice but here is how I feel on the matter. You, Mike and the rest of the crew are doing s great job from what i ahve seen. And all of the musci in the videos is very tastefull and approte for the sceen you are shooting. Out side input is always nice but really what it all comes down to, to me, is when it is all said and done. Do you like the end product and is it what you want. I like the music in your videos except when I see you say something to Mike and I can’t hear it. Even if it is something as boring as “I’ve got an itchy nose”, I think it would add to the realism of the video. Maybe just soften the music during those moments?

I actually like that I can’t hear everything because for the viewer it’s not real. While you are certainly real, “realism” can be found any- and everywhere ad nauseum. What you offer is a beautiful fantasy scene in which the music is complementary to the videos and adds a VERY sexy surrealism at times. The music, along with the visual of your striking red hair, the wonderful camera angles and focal points and your edits for the “payoff” are spot on combine for some of the sexiest and well-made porn I’ve enjoyed. I’m not normally a fan of music in my porn, but it’s easy enough for me to hit the mute button. The music selection on your videos is terrific. Technically you can consider a directional microphone fixed on a tripod. It could stand by the camera and there would be no need for a third person around. Since the camera doesn’t seem to be too far away from you (what? 3 meters tops?), such a setup could really work.
